The Benefits of Regular Exfoliating

We are shedding our skin daily, new cells are being created and replacing the old. But without a little assistance, the dead cells can build up, clogging our pores and causing a dull finish. So what can you do? Exfoliate!

There are a few good reasons to start making exfoliating a regular part of your skin care routine. At this time of year when we transition from summer to fall, it is a perfect time to freshen up our skin. Our bodies have been exposed more to the sun, wind and sweat and the dead skin cells can build up. Getting rid of this build up will bring a fresh glow to your skin, as well by helping to unclog the pores, your acne may be less active.

Exfoliating will also boost the blood flow, which in turn helps to stimulate collagen production. Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body and it is the building block of most of our tissues. The collagen in your skin is responsible for holding it together. Sagging skin? Wrinkles? By exfoliating and exposing fresh skin, we help the absorption of moisturisers and any nutrients that may be present in them. It will also help to smooth and tone the texture of your skin.

How often should you exfoliate? Some people recommend 3 times per week, but if you are using a gentle product (we love our Wolf & Pine Herbals natural sponges for our face!) you will benefit from daily exfoliating. The action should be light and gentle.
